Why Browsy is different
Built against the failure modes
of every other AI extension
We looked at what breaks trust in competing extensions — paid tiers, credit systems, forced accounts, data on unknown servers — and designed Browsy to structurally prevent all of them.
Private by architecture
Your text goes from your browser directly to your provider. Full stop.
Browsy has no backend servers. Every AI call travels from your device directly to Gemini or Grok — we are never in the middle. This isn't a privacy policy; it's the architecture. There is no server of ours to be breached, subpoenaed, or monetized.
text → your key → providerThe only path your data takes
Free, no asterisks
No subscription. No credits. No usage limits we set.
Browsy is free because it runs on your API key, not ours. We have no AI infrastructure to bill you for. The only limits you'll hit are your provider's API rate limits — which, for Gemini, include a generous free tier that covers most workflows entirely.
$0/month · no tiers · no creditsAlways
No account, ever
Open the extension, add your key, start using it. That's the entire setup.
We will never ask for your email address. Not to create an account, not to unlock features, not for a newsletter you didn't ask for. Open the extension, paste your API key, and you're done. No verification, no profile, no paywalled features hiding behind a sign-in wall.

Bring your own key
Your existing API key becomes a full AI toolkit in your browser.
Connect your Gemini or Grok API key and every AI feature in Browsy runs against it. One key, every capability — now and as new ones ship. No separate subscriptions per tool, no credits to manage. Your provider, your cost, your control.

Privacy by architecture
No middle server. No data in transit to us.
Most AI tools act as a proxy — your text goes to their server, which calls the AI on your behalf. Browsy removes that middle layer entirely. Here's what actually happens:

Your API key is stored
On your device
In chrome.storage.local — never synced to the cloud, never sent to us
Instead of subscribing to Browsy's AI service, you use your own API key from Gemini, Grok, or another supported provider. You paste it into the extension once, and every AI feature uses that key. This means your cost is your provider's actual API rate — not our markup. Google Gemini has a free tier that's generous enough for most daily use.
Is Browsy really free? What's the catch?
Browsy the extension is free. There are no tiers, credits, or subscriptions — we have no AI infrastructure to charge you for. You will pay your AI provider (Gemini, Grok) for API usage, but those rates are low, and Gemini's free tier is available for many use cases. The only "catch" is that you need an API key.
What happens to my text and API key?
Your API key is stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), never transmitted to us, and never synced across devices. When you run an AI action, your selected text and a system prompt go directly from your browser to your chosen provider (Gemini, Grok) as an HTTPS request. Browsy has no backend — it's a pure client-side extension. We are never in that data path.
Which AI providers are supported?
Google Gemini and xAI Grok are supported at launch. Both support Browsy's full feature set. Additional providers will be added over time — each one drops in as a new adapter without changing your experience.
Do I need to create an account?
Never. Browsy has no user accounts, no login, no email address collection. Open the extension, enter your API key, and you're ready to use it. This will be true for every future feature as well — it's a product constraint, not something that changes with a "premium" tier.
How is Browsy different from Grammarly, Monica, or HARPA?
Grammarly is a subscription-based single-purpose writing tool with a hosted AI service. Monica, HARPA, Sider, and similar extensions either have paid tiers that gate features, credit systems, forced accounts, or route your text through their own servers. Browsy's architecture makes those failure modes structurally impossible: we have no server to proxy your messages through, no account system to lock you into, and no feature tiers to upsell.
What browsers does Browsy support?
Chrome and all Chromium-based browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and Vivaldi. Firefox support is not planned for the immediate future due to differences in the extension API.
Does Browsy slow down my browser?
No. Browsy injects nothing visible until you take an action — its idle footprint on any page is zero rendered pixels. Detectors run in the content script only when needed, and all module code is lazy-loaded. The AI results you see are streamed in from your provider, so you see output as it arrives rather than waiting for a full response.
Your AI layer. Your key.
